Waipori Falls

THIS TRACK IS CLOSED

Noted for its serenity and peaceful surroundings, the Waipori Falls, also known as Crystal Falls are nestled within a native South Island rainforest.

To get there, head for the small village of Waipori Falls, where the falls are signposted and park in the picnic area near the power station. From the carpark there is a narrow walkway (suitable for those confident on their feet) to the viewing platform, which is a 20 minute return walk.

A great idea is to turn this into a day’s adventure as the drive through the scenic back country roads and Waipori Gorge is a worthy part of the trip.

Travelling north? Take in Sinclair Wetlands on the way and cruise up the windy gravel road following the flow of the Waipori River and the gorge it's created.

Starting from Lawrence? Try your luck fishing at Lake Mahinerangi on the way, then head to the falls via the Waipori Forest.

Got your bikes on the back? Check out nearby Government Track, a well-known Grade Three mountain bike ride through the Waipori Valley. Now you’ve earned that drink.
