Clutha District has a range of education options, making sure all our children get off to a great start with early learning, primary and secondary schools. All our schools have quality teaching staff and facilities.

At tertiary level, Southern Institute of Technology Telford Campus (SIT is part of Te Pūkenga) offers practical training in agriculture, rural veterinary technician, equine, and apiculture.

Businesses in the district offer apprenticeships in a variety of industries. Tokomairiro Training specialises in opportunities for theory-based and practical-based learning for youth aged 16-18 years as well as adults.

Telford - Southern Institute of Technology

The heart of New Zealand Rural Education since 1964.

Telford is part of New Zealand farming history and has been preparing students for their futures in agriculture since 1964. The Balclutha campus extends over 856 hectares of farmland with halls of residence and facilities, technical workshops (machinery, carpentry and welding), classrooms and livestock units.

Students gain real-life, practical training under the supervision of experienced tutors and farm managers. Telford Farms are run as a commercial entity.

The farms provide a commercially realistic 'classroom' to develop your farming skills. Each week Telford Farm Managers have up to five students undertaking work experience.

Telford offers several programmes by distance learning, as well as STAR programmes for schools, and Taster Camps.
