Here, fishy fishy! From the recreational fisherperson, to the more devout angler, Clutha District has plenty of options.

fly fishing in clutha

With over 25 rivers and streams within an hour or two, we’re known for some of the best fly-fishing in the country. For trout and salmon head to the Clutha, Waipahi, Pomahaka, Tuapeka and Catlins Rivers. The best freshwater fishing spots include Ōwaka, Waitahuna, Tokomairiro, and Leithen Burn Rivers.

If you want to get off the beaten track and catch some perch, head to Lake Mahinerangi, located above Waipori, or head down to the coast and try your luck surf casting!

Stop in at the Clutha i-SITE Information Centre in Balclutha or the Owaka Four Square Supermarket for your fishing licence, or purchase one online.
