Age Concern Otago promotes the wellbeing, rights and respect of older persons over 65. They are active and vocal on relevant issues and work to ensure older people stay connected with the community. Do you enjoy speaking with people and making new friends?

Age Concern is looking for volunteers who would like to support socially isolated elderly people in our communities by making regular visits to them at home

Age Concern have a number of Mosgiel residents that would benefit from a visiting companion

A regular visit is something to look forward to, and makes a real difference to the health and happiness of an older person in need of friendship and companionship

Volunteer Visitors come from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups, and Age Concern is committed to ensuring that volunteer vistors have a rewarding, safe, and enjoyable experience

If you decide to volunteer, you'll be matched with an older person who you have some things in common with, and regular visits will be set up at a time and frequency that suits you both
Volunteer Visitors can be certain that you are contributing to the health, wellbeing, dignity and care of older persons in our communities, by providing visiting support to those who need them most.
Requirements
To volunteer, you need to be:
- 18 years of age or over
- A NZ citizen or permanent resident
- Available to visit for at least 6 months
- Age Concern provides basic training and orientation for volunteers
- Ongoing support via meetings, emails, phone calls and newsletters provided
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
- 1 hour per week/as approriate for the older person
- 7-12 month commitment is preferred if possible
