Surat Bay and Cannibal Bay

Surat Bay and Cannibal Bay are two beautiful long sandy beaches, connected by a track along the headland through the dunes. Start the one-hour return walk to Cannibal Bay by following the orange signs at the northern end of Surat Bay. If Cannibal Bay is your first stop, start the track at False Islet Reserve, which takes you over to Surat Bay. 

The track shares interesting stories of days gone by. Surat Bay owes its name to the “Surat” sailing vessel, which ran aground here in 1873. 

Both beaches are great spots for spotting sea lions and there is a colony at the northern end of Surat Bay. Please ensure you respect the protected wildlife. Keep a safe distance and keep dogs on a lead.
