Chrystalls Beach
Feel a world away at Chrystalls Beach - a hidden gem on the coast off Milton.
This secluded long beach, with golden sand as far as the eye can see, is known for its rips, so please take care if you go swimming. Climb the large rock, 'Cook's Head Rock' - a vantage point with spectacular views out to the Pacific Ocean. The lower faces of the phonolite basalt rock are made up of hexagonal columns suggesting it was once a volcanic vent.
To get here, go to the end of the gravel Chrystalls Beach Road and follow a short walking track over the dunes to gain access to the beach. Want to make a day of it? Visit nearby Taieri Mouth, Bull Creek Scenic Reserve or Toko Mouth, all dotted along the Forgotten Coastal Highway and a short drive from Milton.
